John Vellutato is a Senior Consultant, Medicare Part D Pharmacy at BluePeak Advisors, a division of Gallagher Benefit Services, Inc. John brings over 15 years of pharmacy experience spanning the fields of Community Pharmacy, Market Access, Pharmacy Benefit Manager (PBM) and Managed Care, with 10 of those years leading pharmacy teams for health plans in the government programs space.
Prior to joining BluePeak, John specialized in helping initiate government programs pharmacy operations for health plans and then building the processes and teams around them to ensure financial stewardship, quality improvement, and compliance were at the center of focus. John has overseen the strategy and operation of Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug plans (MA‑PD), Dual Eligible Special Needs Plans (DSNP), Medicare‑Medicaid Plans (MMP), Employer Group Waiver Plans (EGWP), and Medicaid plans in multiple states. John’s Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) audit experience includes full program, 1/3 financial, transition monitoring analysis, and formulary administration. He has negotiated and contracted with, implemented and overseen vendors in quality improvement for stars and HEDIS measures, disease management programs, and pharmacy benefit management services.
At BluePeak, John focuses on CMS program audits, PBM assessments, pharmacy and oversight auditing in addition to Formulary Administration (FA), Coverage Determinations, Appeals and Grievances (CDAG) operations, and plan implementation and leadership. In addition to compliance and auditing, he is focused on process improvement, cost savings, operational efficiency and contract review.
John holds a Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) from the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy, a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Wilmington University, and the Fellow of the Academy of Healthcare Management (FAHM) designation from America’s Health Insurance Plans (AHIP). He is a licensed, registered pharmacist in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Virginia, and Maryland.
